What's really behind the Dotz Nano announcement.

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

Surprisingly, CEO of Dotz Nano (ASX:DTZ), Uzi Breier, says the most significant aspect of the company's recent, half a million dollar conditional order, is not the money.

"Every validation is significant, because other potential Dotz customers in the same domain are looking for a competitor to verify the Dotz tag, trace and verification technology," Uzi Breier told me today.

Nano dots are used in hundreds of thousands of products.

Dotz Nano specializes in the development and marketing of molecular level, carbon-based nano used for tracing, anti-counterfeiting and product-liability solutions.

The company's Validotz product is at the centre of Tuesday's announcement.

It can be embedded into plastics, fuels, lubricants, chemicals, and even cannabis and tobacco plants to create, product specific codes and traced for origin using Dotz Nano testers.

According to Breier, a proof of concept (POC) trial, in which black polymer plastic was tagged with the Dotz nano dots has been completed for the client, who wishes to remain anonymous for commercial reasons.

Marking dark plastics with nano dots has been extremely difficult until now, according to Dotz Nano.

But as a result of the POC achievement, the client is about to carry out their own testing, at their cost.

If successful, Breier believes the door will then open for other significant players in the same industry to adopt Dotz Nano technology, as a major player has already trialled, tested and adopted their technology.

Apart from selling the hardware detectors required to reveal its markers, with each new client, Dotz Nano enjoys ongoing sales of its graphene-based nano dots, usually on an annual basis. Volumes vary depending upon use but this latest deal will see a first year sale of $500K worth.

I have listed more about the Dotz Nano technology at the bottom of this post.

Uzi Breier took over as CEO of Dotz Nano almost a year ago and since then has revamped the company based around a new strategic plan.

Since taking over, he has completed the commercial development of the technology itself, developed a line of detectors, and is in various stages of commercial deals in sectors like plastics, lubricants, oil and gas and recently, cannabis.

I spoke with Uzi Breier from New York, a short time ago.

PRODUCT ADVANTAGES AS LISTED ON DOTZ NANO WEBSITE:

  • Embedded during the production process to impart a non-reversible product specific code into the product

  • Can be analyzed on-site and in real-time using Dotz Inspec™ line of detectors

  • Cost-effectiveness in industrial applications due to the low effective marker levels required

  • Carbon-based (do not contain any toxic metals or inorganics)

  • Have no effect on the properties of the product

  • Have no distinct chemical signature which makes them virtually impossible to reverse engineer (do not show on ICP, XRF etc)

  • Thermally and chemically robust

  • Field tested for multiple applications (Lubricants, textile, polymers, agro-chemicals, and more)

  • Not sensitive to shear forces

  • Safe for engines, filters, injection systems etc
